Immutify

MapTools

Immutify Map Tools is a set of tools for browsing maps in various formats.

Map Tools is implemented as a set of Eclipse plugins, and can be delivered as a stand alone application, runnig on Windows, MacOs or Linux, or as an Eclipse feature installed into any Eclipse run time.

Supported Map Formats

Maps are provided either via plugins which may contain static copies of the underlying map data, or may access this over the Internet; or as files. Rasterised (tiled) maps provide rapid access to world wide mapping from various sources, both open source and proprietory. Vector based mapping from the Open Street Map can also be used and rendered on the fly, to produce mapping tailored for specific purposes.

Currently supported mapping formats include:

Support for other formats can be added via plugins.

Features

Multiple maps can be displayed simultaneously, which may be synchronised to show different views of the same location, or may be controlled independently.

Open Street Map vector data can be downloaded and displayed as an overlay to, or along side any tiled map, the content outline view provides an index to named features. In this way OSM data can be used as an index onto other maps.

Overlays

In this image the up to date OSM data is drawn as an overlay to an Ordinance Survey map which pre-dates the building of a new dual carriageway.

Taxonomy

A pluggable Taxonomy builds name information from Open Street Map data into a hierachical index which can be used to locate map features. Here the residential street called Bramley Way has been selected,
and in this image you can see the location of that street has been highlighted over a rasterised map.
