Can I Really Trust You to Keep My Secrets?

You don't need to!

All messages are encrypted in the client before transmission to the Immutify transport service. During registration end user encryption keys are generated in the client application and never leave the end user's computer. Private keys are not shared or transmitted at any time.

Users are encouraged to store their keys on a removable device such as a USB memory stick, and to safeguard them in the same way that they would treat physical keys to a valuable item.

Aren't There Existing Secure Email Solutions?

Yes there are, and with care and attention it is possible to configure popular email clients to use digital certificates to send and receive encrypted and signed email.

The problem is that it is very easy to slip up and find that your messages are being sent insecurely after all. Also, mixing secure and regular communications makes it very easy to make mistakes and send sensitive data as regular email unintentionally..

Immutify uses standard protocols and formats, but by providing a separate and distinct secure messaging environment, we make it easy to ensure that sensitive material is always handled securely.

There is a natural tension between security and ease of use, which means that secure systems need to be designed from the ground up with security in mind. Trying to secure general purpose email clients is possible but difficult, and there are many traps for the unwary.

So it's Open Source, Big Deal, So What?

Computer security is a difficult area, in order to make a system secure the defenders need to "get it right" all of the time, whereas an intruder only needs to be right once, and any security system is only as strong as it's weakest link.

By making the ISM client open source we demonstrate our confidence in our product, and our commitment to providing a genuinely secure messaging environment. In the event that we do make any mistakes, and introduce a vulnerability into the product, the eyes of developers across the open source community will help to find that defect so that it can be corrected as quickly as possible.

Immutify Secure Messaging

Immutify Secure Messaging (ISM) is an easy to use solution to provide secure email services for business and personal users.

The ISM client application is a free software package which can be installed wherever it is required. A subscription fee provides access to the messaging service which allows messages to be securely exchanged with other subscribers.

Strong cryptography ensures that messages can only be read by the intended recipients, and digital signatures provide dependable assurance that messages genuinely originate from the claimed sender.

ISM is appropriate for the transmission of financial statements and other confidential or personal data between businesses and individuals.

Different classes of service provide for various delivery services including recorded delivery and proof of sending.

For commercial senders, ISM provides a service equivalent to recorded delivery postal mail, at a fraction of the cost of regular first class post.

The availability of source code for the ISM client means that there can be no "smoke and mirrors", the implementation details of ISM are open to inspection and it can be verified that all data is transmitted in an encrypted form from end to end. The Immutify transport service has no visibility of the clear text version of any message, and message contents remain private to the sender and recipient of any message.

Industrial Strength Encryption

A range of modern industry standard encryption algorithms and key sizes are available to provide an appropriate level of privacy for any application. Standard encryption and digital signature algorithms and protocols provide security which can be relied upon.

Digital Certificates and Data Privacy

Standard format X.509 digital certificates give users a reliable and internationally recognized way of identifying themselves during electronic transactions. The provision of separate attribute certificates allows users to reveal as much or as little identifying data about themselves as is appropriate for the transaction taking place.

Different classes of certificate provide various levels of verification of the holder's true identity providing appropriate mechanisms for all types of service interactions. Immutify does not ask any user to take identity on trust, but rather provides clear and straight forward information about a subject to enable other subscribers to make their own determination as to the suitability of any counterparty for any particular transaction.

XML Technology for Financial Statements

XML technology provided as part of the ISM client application enables service providers to send their customers statements in a form where the client application can save and accumulate data over time.

For example, an investment fund could send it's customers a monthly valuation statement as an XML document. Industry standard XML Style Sheet technology can be used to display each statement as a document in the same way that a paper statement would appear. The integral database included in the ISM client can process the XML valuation data to accumulate a historic view of the customer's investments over time.
